Sir,
In reply to Mr Lucas's letter of the 29th ultimo (2731) stating that the Governor of Hong Kong has asked that six warders may be engaged for the Victoria Gaol, Hong Kong, I am directed by the Secretary for Scotland to state for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies that he understands from the Prison Commissioners for Scotland that an enquiry they have made shows that no warder in the Scottish Prison Service desires to take up these appointments.
